Primary Briefing
In the world of Shivath, there are many beings who identify as Skinwalkers. These creatures are bound by a singular, pivotal moment: the wrath and judgment of the Primordial Wardens, supported by Eldarionne, the God of Nature. Nearly all beings that are hybrids of man and beast are considered Skinwalkers. They are as diverse as their human ancestors; some have found ways to integrate into the broader world, building lives within society’s edges, while others remain in secluded colonies deep within forests or mountains, hidden from persecution and misunderstanding.
The modern-day Skinwalkers are not directly cursed by the Primordial Wardens, but they descend from those who were. Long ago, in the aftermath of the First Wild Hunt, humanity began to heal under the guidance of Eldarionne, who believed in their capacity for growth and understanding. Yet, ambition and disrespect took root. Mortals exploited the forests, hunted sacred animals, and pillaged the earth without reverence, pushing nature’s patience to its breaking point.
Eldarionne, ever hopeful, pleaded for humanity, arguing that they were still young and could learn the ways of balance and respect. The Primordial Wardens agreed to give Eldarionne’s faith a chance. But humanity’s greed won out. The emissaries were met not with understanding but violence.
As these bandits celebrated their conquest, Eldarionne wept, their hope shattered by humanity’s betrayal. The Primordial Wardens, moved by Eldarionne’s grief and the audacity of the mortals, unleashed their judgment. They cursed the perpetrators to become one with the creatures they had wronged, binding their fate to the wild they had so callously disregarded. These mortals were transformed into the first Skinwalkers, beings who would learn to respect nature by living as part of it.
Generations later, the descendants of these cursed ancestors continue to bear the legacy of their forebears. While some Skinwalkers have embraced their dual nature, living as defenders of the natural world and symbols of the delicate balance between humanity and nature, others live in seclusion, haunted by memories of betrayal and judgment. Yet, in the rustle of leaves and the whisper of the wind, Eldarionne’s quiet watch endures, offering the hope that one day, humanity might learn and redemption might come.
